What is Asthma?

Asthma is a common long-term inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs, characterised by variable and recurring symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Triggers range from allergens to physical activity and stress. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 262 million people were affected by asthma in 2019, and it caused 461,000 deaths. Understanding asthma and its management is the first step in controlling this debilitating condition.

Why Get Asthma Treatment Online?

It doesn't matter if you get Asthma treatment online or visit a doctor's clinic. It is crucial to seek proper asthma treatment for several compelling reasons.

Firstly, asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that can significantly impact one's quality of life if left unmanaged. Effective treatment can help control and alleviate symptoms, such as wheezing, coughing, and breathlessness, enabling individuals to lead a more active and fulfilling life.

Secondly, untreated asthma can lead to severe exacerbations and potentially life-threatening asthma attacks, which can result in hospitalisation or even death. Timely treatment with bronchodilators and anti-inflammatory drugs can prevent these critical episodes.

Lastly, getting asthma treatment online when needed can reduce long-term damage to the airways, minimising the risk of irreversible decline in lung function. In summary, getting proper asthma treatment is vital for symptom control, preventing emergencies, and safeguarding long-term lung health.

Managing Asthma

Managing asthma can be an overwhelming task for individuals, especially for those who have been recently diagnosed. It can be challenging to remember and adjust to a new treatment plan, and the fear of having an asthma attack can be daunting. However, with the right resources and support, individuals with asthma can be empowered to take control of their respiratory health. Healthcare professionals, family, and friends can provide support as individuals navigate the complexities of asthma management. With the proper guidance, individuals with asthma can lead healthier, symptom-free lives.

Importance of Asthma Inhalers

Asthma can be a complex condition to manage, and asthma inhalers can be a lifeline for those affected. They provide quick relief when symptoms flare up and help people to manage their condition over time. These devices come in various types to suit each person's specific needs and allow them to live freely and easily.

Metered Dose Inhalers (MDIs) are an invaluable tool for people with asthma, allowing users to manage their symptoms conveniently. However, it can be challenging to coordinate the inhaler's pressing and the medication's inhalation. With some practice, users can become more comfortable and confident using MDIs correctly, allowing them to manage their asthma better and live healthier, more comfortable lives.

Another popular type is the Dry Powder Inhaler (DPI), which, unlike the MDI, does not use a propellant to deliver the medication. Instead, it releases a fine powder that the user must inhale quickly and deeply. DPIs are often preferred by people who find it challenging to use MDIs correctly, as they require less hand-breath coordination.

Another type is Soft Mist Inhalers (SMIs). They contain medication for immediate relief or long-term control of asthma symptoms. Using the right inhaler correctly is crucial for effective asthma management. Regular consultations with healthcare providers and adherence to prescribed treatment plans are essential.

In the complex landscape of asthma management, we understand how crucial it is to choose the right type of inhaler for effective treatment. That's where Mobi Doctor can genuinely transform the way we manage asthma. As a telemedicine platform, Mobi Doctor provides the convenience and expertise to ensure we receive the most suitable inhaler for your needs.

How to Use Asthma Inhalers

Asthma inhalers are a cornerstone in treating asthma, but their effectiveness largely depends on how they are used. Incorrect usage can lead to less medication reaching the lungs, resulting in poor control of asthma symptoms. Patients need to understand the correct technique for their specific type of inhaler.

Metered Dose Inhalers (MDIs):

● Preparation: Shake the inhaler well for about 5 seconds.

● Technique: Breathe out fully, away from the inhaler. Place the mouthpiece between your lips and close your lips around it. Start to breathe in slowly through your mouth and, at the same time, press down on the top of the inhaler to release a dose of medicine. Keep breathing in steadily and deeply.

● After Inhalation: Hold your breath for about 10 seconds or as long as comfortable, then breathe slowly. Wait about 30 seconds before taking a second puff if prescribed.

● Cleaning: Rinse your mouth with water after using the inhaler to help reduce side effects like oral thrush.

Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs):

● Preparation: Load a dose of the medicine according to the instructions. Do not shake these inhalers.

● Technique: Breathe out fully, away from the inhaler. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and seal your lips around it. Inhale quickly and deeply through your mouth to draw the powdered medicine into your lungs.

● After Inhalation: Hold your breath for about 10 seconds or as long as comfortable, then breathe out. If a second dose is needed, follow the instructions for loading the dose again.

● Cleaning: Follow manufacturer guidelines for cleaning, as DPIs do not typically require rinsing your mouth.

Soft Mist Inhalers (SMIs):

● Preparation: Prime the inhaler if it's new or unused.

● Technique: Breathe slowly, then close your lips around the mouthpiece. Press the dose-release button as you breathe slowly and deeply through your mouth.

● After Inhalation: Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then breathe out slowly.

General Tips for All Inhalers

● Always Follow Instructions: Read and follow the instructions provided with your inhaler. The technique may vary slightly between different brands or types.

● Check Technique with Healthcare Provider: During a medical appointment or telemedicine call, demonstrate how you use your inhaler to ensure your technique is correct.

● Keep Track of Doses: Many inhalers have dose counters. If yours doesn't, keep track of your use to know when the inhaler is low.

● Regular Cleaning: Regularly clean your inhaler to ensure it works effectively.

● Never Share Inhalers: Inhalers are prescribed for individual use. Sharing can spread infections.

Using your asthma inhaler correctly is crucial for managing your asthma. If you have any doubts or difficulties with your inhaler, consult your healthcare provider for a demonstration or additional guidance. Remember, proper inhaler use can significantly impact the effectiveness of your asthma treatment plan.
